Strategy

Foundation IT’s experience shows that the biggest challenge for our customers is to plan and articulate how they will implement SharePoint technology and roll it out to the business. Often, the reason for this can be the sheer scale of the functionality that SharePoint framework has to offer and the misconception that implementing it in a strategic manner has to be a lengthy and costly exercise.

Commonly, an organisation’s evaluation of SharePoint originates simply from the business need to become more collaborative, share valuable information and harness corporate IP and knowledge. Microsoft’s fastest ever selling server technology has been marketed well and sometimes organisations can find themselves saying that SharePoint is the answer but they weren’t sure what the question was! For CIOs the challenge is to provide a valuable, robust, cohesive and effective range of business services to their organisation.

SharePoint is often selected as a complimentary platform because of its ability to provide a range of capability across Collaboration, Business Intelligence, Business Process, Document Management and more, with familiar, integrated Microsoft look and feel for the end user.  However, once chosen, there is a temptation either to over-complicate thinking (e.g. drowning in taxonomy) or to focus on ‘quick wins’ in isolation by releasing new services and applications without considering the broader impact or strategy. In reality, this strategy doesn’t work and user adoption remains low or ineffective, often making SharePoint usable but not useful.

Foundation IT is often approached by businesses, post-SharePoint implementation, where only the needs of a minority of business users have been satisfied and have no follow-on plan.  Implementing in isolation without having a roadmap and a vision as to what SharePoint could and should mean to the organisation is a risk which will ultimately exacerbate the reasons for introducing SharePoint in the first place.

A successful SharePoint implementation is achieved by planning strategically whilst still developing tactically. Foundation IT will help you to deliver the ‘quick wins’ but ensure that this is executed as part of a well-defined road map. We work collaboratively to build a vision and plan of how SharePoint will bring value to your business allowing you to maximise your investment. By leveraging our unique SharePoint “Inception to Maturity” model, and our proven methodology, we ensure business issues, IT needs, goals and timescales are met.
