Queen Mary’s College wanted a solution to manage the wide range of resources available to students, teachers and back-office staff. To achieve this they worked with Microsoft® Gold Certified Partner, Foundation IT to design, implement and support an end-to-end solution based on Microsoft SharePoint as a communication and collaboration infrastructure. The solution involved a detailed assessment of the College requirements to deliver an information hierarchy that will support the organisation now and in the future.
With its strong partnership based approach Foundation IT have helped QMC to deliver a collaboration and content management platform that has become business critical to the College. As a direct result QMC have seen improvements in quality, faster turnaround times for statutory returns and cost reductions on previously costly manual processes.
Keeping Pace
To support its goal the College initially recognised the need to replace its ageing Intranet.
Information was disparate, difficult for both students and teachers to find and, with limited
IT resources, increasingly complex to support.
James Godfrey, Director of Information & Learning Technology (ILT) at QMC commented “Our aim was to create a centre of IT excellence that matched the high standards delivered in our Teaching and Learning environment. Whatever we were to develop had to be robust, secure, future proof and most importantly user friendly for both student and teacher.”
The right partner - why Foundation IT?
Foundation IT was the natural choice, not only was their team familiar with the goals and aspirations of the College, having completed several smaller projects, they were also trusted and respected.
James added, “In working with Foundation IT we felt they always put the needs of the College before the opportunity for commercial gain. We believed they would help steer us in the right direction.”
“As a direct result we have seen an improvement in overall attendance, achievement and retention. Attendance is 6% above the average of previous years.”Director of Quality and Staff Development, Queen Mary’s College
The nature of the relationship between Queen Mary’s College and Foundation IT can be summed up by Alan Heap, Vice Principal of the College.
“During a recent visit an OFSTED inspector commented that the College’s use of high quality information was an outstanding example of how to use electronic information systems to support learning effectively. With this project Foundation IT has shifted from being a valued supplier to a strategic business partner. Every step of the way we feel challenged to progress, it’s an organic relationship, we change, and they change.”
