Business Situation
EurotaxGlass’s needed a platform to host their comprehensive suite of online automotive business intelligence services that would deliver high levels of availability, be simple to manage and address business continuity issues.
To achieve this they formed a partnership with Foundation IT to design, implement and support an end-to-end solution based upon VMware Infrastructure 3 and EMC storage.

It was agreed to convert all the production servers to virtual machines running on a small number of VMware ESX hosts. All data storage was migrated to a SAN system and an additional server, running VMware Virtual Centre, would be introduced to manage and control the whole environment.
The majority of the infrastructure was migrated into the virtual environment using VMware Converter. Every opportunity was taken to use resilient systems; using multiple power supplies, multiple network paths, multiple storage paths etc.
After building the solution onsite and completing initial replication and extensive testing, Foundation IT then assisted in moving and configuring the infrastructure to the disaster recovery site; with a failover test carried out once this was complete.
A significant part of the process was the creation of a configuration and management guide produced as part of the project handover. The guide contains details of the new infrastructure along with an overview of any maintenance that may need to be carried out.
